The Hanging of the Bras

I'm back. I just did not have the desire last week to post, write, not a thing. I had a blockage with words. This morning I feel like I finally have the words to put to print but in this office I can't seem to find a quiet moment to type them. It is Monday morning here and it seems all the guys are still here at the office, not out in the field where they should be. I guess there are just too many things to gather up in the shop on their trucks and pipe to bend, etc. They need to get out and leave me to my thoughts please. While I was at the cabin with my girlfriends this weekend The Hubby caught up on some billing so my desk is knee deep in invoicing and I have to pay some bills.

Now back to the weekend, The Hanging of the Bras. What a wonderful weekend. The weather was AWESOME and the company was AWESOME. Friday afternoon I was able to get on the road about 1 pm with one of the girls following, Kat. We arrived, opened the cabin and then waited and waited. I really don't mind waiting, in fact if it is at the cabin that is just fine but that many hours with Kat is a little too much. Finding topics of conversation can be a little strained but we did okay. The other ladies finally started showing up about 6:30 and the party was on. There were 10 all together in attendance on Friday night with most of them leaving on Saturday afternoon leaving 3. I have all the ladies contribute $10 for food as I go by Olive Garden and get salad, lasagna and chicken scampi for our dinner with leftovers to eat on Saturday. I also made an fabulous egg casserole Friday morning for the next day. Then everyone else brings beverages (wine), snacks and sweets, there is not want for food. We ate dinner, laughed, cracked open about 6 bottles of wine and did the bus stop on the screened porch. Before we even had the first glass of wine the bras began coming off and were hanging on the string of party lights on the porch. Notice there are only seven bras, three of the ladies chose not to participate, party poopers. The laughter and dancing continued for me until I hit the sheets about 11:30. I just could not keep my eyes open after being up since 4:30. One of the ladies had a LOT to drink and they attempted to pour her into bed three times until she finally passed out about 2:30. What a party! It was great and I can't wait till next year. We've done it two years in a row, so far, with plans to continue. One of the ladies Desi, flies in from California to participate and it is her birthday. She used to be one of the Jazzercise ladies. The one downer for me was that I had to share a bed with Kat, my bed. Usually my cousin H shares with me but Kat wanted to get there early so she would have a bed and not the floor so it was my bed. Kat snores, not girl snores, guy snores. Oh my goodness, if I woke up at night it was non-stop snoring. She slept on her back the entire night and no amount of my jiggling the bed stopped her. PLEASE not next year, PLEASE!!! This probably explains the nap I took in the hammock and the nap I later took in my bed when she was gone. Good Grief!

My life on a Tuesday

My life on a Tuesday:

I was up as usual and out of the house at 5 am for Jazzercise. Our instructor Andrea gave us a bombshell though by letting us know that as of Thursday she will no longer be our 5:30 am instructor. She has taken a new job and has to be there at 6 so she can't. I am so not happy by this but I know that her life goes on and I would surely give it up for a higher salary too. Andrea became an instructor a few short months before I started at Jazzercise so I've been with her for about 11 years.

Moving on I rushed home for a quick breakfast and then back to the personal trainer and oh my goodness I won't be able to walk tomorrow. It was a good workout. It is so great to be back to sweating and sore muscles.

Again I was rushing home to take a shower and then have the gray disguised in my hair. I have toyed with the the idea of cutting my hair again but opted to keep growing it for a bit longer.

Now done with the running around I am home sitting in my favorite chair reading blogs and adding to mine while catching my soaps, As The World Turns and The Guiding Light. I plan on leaning back here in bit and drifting off for a quick nap. Man I love days off.

Wonderful Saturday Morning

Good morning all! It is a most wonderful Saturday morning today. I'm here sitting on Harri's new deck using Grumps Internet connection and drinking in the morning air. It is cool, light jacket cool with a little fogginess in the air. The birds are singing the praises of the morning with a huge crow just overhead cawing, making my ears ring. Yesterday the trees were alive with the birds over Harri's deck fighting for dragonflies and mosquitoes getting ready for the winter cold. I'm here batching it this weekend as The Hubby is off to Ohio for a flashlight collectors show. It may end up being a mini girls weekend as Jimbo is golfing and Bare is not hear so Sin will be up with her best friend Ang, so mini girls weekend. Two girls weekends in a row! Next weekend is my Jazzy girls weekend here with 10 total counting myself. I have sleeping arrangements for 9 so one of the ladies will be sleeping on the floor, probably my cousin as she doesn't mind at all. One of the ladies is flying in from California for the happenin'.

This post is a little disjointed as I'm trying to write in-between yaking with Harri. I can't seem to get a sentence written the way I would like it to be but it is what it is. Today I'll probably spend most of my time talking here and then trying to read more on my book Edgar Sawtelle.

Pamper Day

Today was a partial pamper day. I worked out and realized I'm still not 100% yet as I nearly passed out with the personal trainer. I will definitely be sore tomorrow morning as I roll out of bed at 4:45 a.m. I accomplished cleaning out the birds cages which were nasty and as I was trying to leave the house The Hubby popped in for leftovers and a quick dance step or two. We have a lesson tomorrow ARGHHHHH! I told him it would have to be a quick dance then I was off to meet B for lunch at Wild Fork for crab cakes. After a nice lunch with my daughter then it was to the office for an hour or so to deposit some checks then run to my manicure and pedicure! While sitting in the chair The Hubby called and reminded me that tonight and tomorrow night he and the other electrical journeymen have continuing education classes and they will be fed so I'm on my own. No cooking. Probably will order pizza tonight because I don't want to miss the Big Brother Finale! I'm really kind of boring today.

Another Monday

Here we are another Monday. The same old thing, day in and day out. I'm up and off to workout before 5 am, back home for breakfast and to ready to head off to the office. Now it is almost noon and I've opened the little bit of mail today, answered a few phone calls, played ClubPOGO and now I'm taking time out of my busy schedule to read a few blogs and to add to my blog. BORING! Yes it is a boring morning here today. I've got my cameras up on the screen so I can see outside in my windowless office and I so want to be out. I stepped out for a brief moment and enjoyed the warmth of the sun and cool air. It is truly turning fall outside and I'm stuck behind this stupid desk. Now, don't get me wrong, I do love being part of our business but sometimes, like today I yearn for being out in the world. Especially after a rainy weekend of staying indoors most of the time at the cabin. I just have to tell myself that I will have tomorrow since B will be here all day and I have the weekend. The Hubby is traveling to Ohio on Thursday for a flashlight collectors show and so I will be off to the cabin. The weather forecast is predicting beautiful weather and I am going to partake of it. I plan on walking/running and drinking an itsy-bit of wine!

(If this post is a little disjointed it is because the phone keeps ringing in and messing with my train of thought.)

I have TV on my computer too so now I'm watching the news and later my soaps, As The World Turns and Guiding Light. The headlines are of course the banking stuff, Lehman Bros and Merrill Lynch. It is a little scary and does make me edgy but I'll just not watch. Things will be okay.

The Hubby has been on his cell phone and the office phone since I walked in the door this morning a little after eight. Most of the calls are of generator sales. We have branched off into that field for sometime now and for some reason the calls have been heavy again the past couple of weeks. These are stand-by permanent generators, not a cheap thing but people are willing to purchase them after the winter we have had. He even had a call from his cousin that lives north of Houston about a generator. They already have a portable but The Hubby talked to him all about the advantages of the permanent and what he would need for his house and so forth. It's really pretty interesting to listen to the phone calls and I really do learn a lot but will NEVER to the sales talk.

Friday evening when The Hubby and I finally left for the cabin my cell phone rang and I was expecting one of the girls but it was one of B's best guy friends. He has been having really rough time since he and his partner broke up. They were a week before a commitment ceremony and his partner decided to break it off. J has been just beside himself with sorrow and anger and depression. He decided to call me to talk on Friday and seek out my comfort and support. I hoped I was a help to him but we both agreed to not let B find out because she is very territorial when it comes to her friends and me. For some odd reason she won' allow me to be friends with her friends and I really don't understand it. It's like she is jealous or something. I'm a good friend and since I have lost Mom and Gail I'm down a couple of friends so it is nice to add to my friend circle. I don't like being secretive with B but I don't like her wrath that she can turn on me. You would think being almost 29 years old she would get over that stuff.

Well, I guess I had better get back to manning the phone. I have barely had time to type this entry with it ringing here at lunch time. That is a good thing though!

A Fishing Weekend

The weekend got started off late as The Hubby had a Monday on a Friday. He didn't even roll into the house to pick me up to go to the cabin until 6pm. I had decided to ride with him this weekend so I sat and waited, and waited. That was okay as we had a nice drive up there. We arrived just before dark and he wanted to rush down to the dam and try to wet a line, as he calls it. I unloaded the car, turned on the water and began to prepare our easy dinner of a prepared chicken, microwaved baked potatoes and broccoli when I heard the door to the basement/garage swing open and The Hubby hollering at me to hurry and come here. I didn't know what was up but I ran out the front door and he was in the driveway with a fish basket and he yelled to get the camera. He had a huge wide mouth bass in the basket and he was like a little kid grinning and jumping up and down. I ran inside and got my camera while he got his out of his truck and we took these pictures of his catch. After the picture taking he grabbed the fish and ran next door to Harri and Jimbo's to show it off. I ran after him and when Harri opened the door he just went inside to show it off to Jimbo and Grumps who was also there. Needless to say this poor little fishy didn't make it back into the waters again. He usually throws them back but tonight, he is dinner.
4-1/2 pounds of wide mouth bass and Dinner
One Big Fish

A Day of Shopping

Today I had to go to the office for a bit to run a few credit cards then it was off to the mall. My main objective was to go to Victoria's Secret for new bras. Do you know how long it has been since I have been able to get a regular bra, especially at VS. The last time I tried to buy a bra there over 20 years ago the girl looked at me and told me there was probably not anything in the store to fit me. I will say it was before I had the breast reduction and before I had lost close to 70 pounds. Today it was great fun and I bought five new bras, and they are the smallest size I have worn since I was in junior high. What a real thrill. I still can't get my big caboose in the underwear but in time I will. After the VS trip I wondered into Coldwater Creek and found a couple of blouses, a size 16 jean and slacks. 16!!!!!!! So very cool. A few years ago I was a size 26 so I've come a long way. I still do 18's occasionally and just depends on the jean/pant. I also had some time to kill waiting for a meeting this evening and wondered into Stein Mart and found a couple of purses and another really darling blouse. My poor little credit cards are screaming today but it was worth it. When I put the new acquisitions in the closet I took out just as many that I haven't worn in over a year. So has ended my day of shopping!

Monday Ramble

I had a wonderful workout at Jazzercise this morning. This the first full workout without leaving because of nauseousness or lightheadedness or no energy since I got the "virus" in July. I feel great. The antibiotic I'm on now I think is finally working.
_____________________________________________________________________
I had to be at the office earlier than usual because B is back to teaching at TCC, her ESL classes on Monday and Wednesday. I have used all of my free time at home while she was out for the summer. She is teaching and taking classes and on Saturday she takes her "Comps" for her master's. She is very stressed but I so admire her doing all she is doing. She had better before they "possibly" decide to have children someday. Now she is talking about going for her PhD. WOW!
_____________________________________________________________________
The weekend was very nice and quiet at the lake. I really didn't get too much reading done. Sometimes I just lose interest and that is not good with the huge book I'm reading now, "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle". I spent most of Saturday knitting and watching "The Bucket List" with The Hubby. Loved the movie.
_____________________________________________________________________
Friday night high school football games started and I was oh so very happy that Broken Arrow stomped the daylights out of Union Friday, 24-9 ending a 22 game losing streak! YEE HAW! (Can you guess I'm a BA fan and alumni! So was my Daddy.)
____________________________________________________________________
Guess I will get to work today. Kind of lonely here today, Monday's usually are. I have a couple of invoices to type up and a quote, pay a few bills then NOTHING. Guess I'll spend the day playing ClubPOGO and reading blogs!

Feeling Better

The weekend was awesome. We had a most pleasant time at the cabin with friends. It was very low key and peaceful, just what I needed. Harri and I sat on her newly constructed most of the weekend and just talked and bird-watched, while I knitted. Friday night another couple and us (that includes Jimbo and Harri) to join our foods for dinner. We again did it on Saturday without the other couple. That is what I like about the lake is the ease of the evenings and dinner arrangements. We ate, drank a little wine and just vegged. I'm also feeling so much better today. The new antibiotic is working wonders so far. That's all just an update.

Hillbilly Sandwiches

When I was a child we lived on Main Street and on the next block to the south was the Humpty Dumpty grocery store which we walked to many times a week. A couple of times a year a traveling sandwich wagon would set up and sell sandwiches called Hillbilly Sandwiches. They were made from a wonderful BBQ sauce, Hillbilly BBQ Sauce, made in the state and of which I haven't been able to find for a few years. We used to get a sack full of the sandwiches for dinner whenever they were at the store. My mother found out how they made them and they have been a staple of my food intake for years. Yesterday I was so hungry for them I decided to have them for dinner tonight. Since I was not able to find Hillbilly BBQ Sauce I was forced to find another so I found one called John's that is also made in the state. The secret is to find a sweet BBQ sauce.

Back in the swing!

This morning is the first day back to Jazzercise. They have changed the class time to 5:30 am and that is okay with me. It means I'll be done 15 minutes earlier. I am so ready to get back into the swing of things with my workouts and weight loss. Since I've been sick I feel just stagnant with it all but TODAY it is back to normal. I've finished workout and them home to my usual breakfast:

Sept 1, 2008

Labor Day! Yup, that is today. Last night was a weird night sleep wise. Both of us woke up about 2:35 am to tinkle but The Hubby quickly fell back to sleep, as for me, not the case. I laid in bed with the fan less than 3 feet away, no covers, no clothes and sweated. I tossed and turned because I just couldn't get back to sleep. Rats! I hate nights like that. Finally, the last time I looked at the clock it was about 3:30 and then next thing I remember it was about 7:30. I had planned on hanging around all day and just read but I just wasn't in the mood today. I decided to pack it up and head to the house in town. I left The Hubby working on a project knowing he would be back a little later and then at the office for a little work while it was quiet. I have just enjoyed hanging out at the house with no television, blogging, doing my laundry, taking a shower and eating a little cup of chocolate ice cream. What a day. I think I like Labor Day, not the baby labor day although this month does bring that to mind. 29 years ago this month I was doing just that as B will be 29 on the 24th. I was exactly 3 weeks late with that little girl as I was with A and they were just perfect. My body knew what it was doing when then stayed in the little...huge oven for the extra days. With both girls my water broke and with B the labor was 6 hours and 9 with A. Really not bad even pain wise, but of course that was 29 years ago (23 with A) so memory does get a little hazy. Amazing what your mind goes to when you are bored and have absolutely NOTHING TO DO!

The drive home this morning was nice. I left the cabin about 9:30 am with my top down to enjoy the early morning air and it was a wonderful drive.

Labor Day

Tomorrow is Labor Day and I will spend it here at the lake doing nothing of the sort. It has been a very nice weekend so far. Quiet and the weather sort of okay. Yesterday a weird thunderstorm came up and I was caught at a friends cabin on my golf cart. The lightening was scary and we were on their front porch so I opted to chance it an high-tail it back to the cabin. I had just gotten all dolled up too so I had to re-dry my hair when I got back. Harri and Jimbo, Bare and Sin are all going out on the pontoon boat today, like yesterday with all their kids in tow. We were invited but that is just way too many people on one boat for me and too long on a boat with not facilities save for the lake. I had a little too much to drink last night for that to be an option. I can't stray too far from nights like that and I really don't know how they do it especially since they don't even remember much of last night. I had three shots of tequila and that was quite enough for me although I really didn't get drunk last night, at all. Very weird. On the other hand the others were LOOPED! I can not do that every weekend, no way. Eventually, that will catch up with you as I have seen it in my parents. There is a problem when half your car is loaded down with liquor for the weekend and you, as adults have jello shots in you refrigerator for the college kids. NOPE not for me. The Hubby and I left a little before 10 because we wanted to have some time to ourselves as I have been "out of commission" for about 5 weeks and am now "back in commission." I think we slept for nine hours last night which is what I need.

This week I will start back to workout, which I am missing so badly. I will begin Jazzercise again and then next week add the personal trainer again. I'm going to add it slowly to allow my body to get used to it again after being so ill. This weekend I will read and write and sleep and rest.

Temp 87 degrees feels like 95

I just finished helping my friends Sin and Harri put together the community Labor Day breakfast and whew am I bushed. It is 87 degrees here but feels like 95 according to Weather.com and I truly believe it. We decided to be down at the wigwam about 7 to get things setup after spending yesterday afternoon chopping bell peppers, onions and fruit and scrambling eggs, 10 dozen. The biscuits were pre-made and the gravy you just add water and cook so it really wasn't too bad. Oh and the bacon was done in the microwave 20 pounds. I'm not very hungry right now. It was fun though. I was up at 6:30 to shower and will have to have another shower to rinse off the sweat we worked up feeding all of the 50 or so who showed up. Really I don't think we had that many but that was the total signed up to attend the morning festivities. It is done and I have contributed my services for the year and won't have to do it again for another year. I think I'll just go back in my nice air conditioned cabin, take a cold shower and then a big fat nap and then maybe I'll read later. Tonight is another party of hamburgers and fries and Bare & Sin's and the can throw some kind of shindig! I'm hoping to not have to do anything else this weekend but sleep, read, blog and write for the rest of the weekend. I need to finish getting my rest and keep in good health.

On a final note, the MIL finally closed on her house. HAPPY DAYS! It has been on the market since last October and we are so glad to finally have that burden lifted and carry on with our lives and for her too.

A trip to the minor emergency

Well, the hives have hung around all day long so far. After being up at 5 in the morning I finally was able to sleep a little more, till 10am. I arose and decided to shower and realized that the hives had diminished a bit but were still there. I had to go the office and make a deposit but on the way there was having a little shortness of breath and felt like I had a pill or food stuck in my lower throat. I tried to eat a salad but that seemed to make it hurt worse but yet better. A Diet Pepsi made me burp a bit which helped but my voice was raspy and a little tight so I figured I had better make a run to the minor emergency after a run to the house. The Hubby had stopped by so he said he would take me. The decided to put me on steroids and Zyrtec and Benedryl and to watch if any of the symptoms got worse. I went home and slept for another couple of hours and now the hives are gone but still a little raspy. Very strange. The doc and I wondered if I should get another antibiotic but decided to see if my other infection would finish healing up on its own. We'll see. Just going to sleep a lot tomorrow and say goodbye to A as she flies out to California again.

Hives

This is the new form of torture my body has bestowed upon me, hives. I have apparently developed an allergy to the antibiotic that I have been on for my infection. I was with my friend checking out venues for her daughters wedding when all of a sudden the bend of my arm started sort of itching. We had just seen a couple of spiders and wondered if I had been bitten but as we were getting back in the car my backside started itching. We made it back to her house and I went into the bathroom and unzipped my jeans to see my shrinking tummy covered in hives. I knew exactly what was happening. It was 4:45 and I hurriedly called my doc and they told me to immediately stop taking the antibiotic and that they would call in an antihistamine. I drove right to the pharmacy and found out that it was not done, arriving about 6pm. I went on home as my tummy was getting a little upset and then checked online and even called the pharmacy at 7:15 and Still no call from the doctor. I got desperate and took a couple of Benedryl and about 8:15 I checked online and there it was. Wait, I already have a prescription for that, I call it my itchy medicine so I ran in there and took one, then at 10 I took another. The hives were melding into one huge hive and I was almost totally covered. I am miserable right now. I woke up about 4 and tried to sleep but the itching had started again so it was up to pop a couple of pills. It is better but that is relative as I am one huge bump!

New and Old Pictures

This weekend was a full weekend of having A home and it was wonderful. We had a nice time at the cabin and a family dinner for her and The Hubby's birthday. It has been a nice. Alas, she goes home on Wednesday but she is still sleeping in wasting precious time here but that is how it goes. The Hubby and A went fishing and here are a few pic's to catch the moment:

Saturday while waiting for casseroles to bake I scanned some old pictures from my Greatgranny's home in Jay. There are pic's of the barn and family and the house that brings back so many sweet memories of my childhood summers and Thanksgivings. This place is where I learned to love nature, gardening, flowers, bugs, and just critters. I also learned about different people here. My greatgranny, greatgranddaddy, Big Dan (great-uncle) and Ree were awesome when it came to meeting people. You would not know it really as Big Dan was sort of grumpy but people were always stopping in for visits, show off their latest hunting aquistion, having taxes done or just visit. Ree would always offer tea or food and you usually left with one of her handmade potholders and if there weren't any made up she would quickly whip one up in the fruit celler or the back bedroom, wherever the sewing machine might be. If there was a new baby you would go home with a baby "quilt". They were made with a cute fabric on top and the backside would be this fuzzy fabric. My girls had many of these blankets and my kitchen drawers are full of handmade potholders, which I can whip out myself now. I look at these pictures and I'm drawn into memories that are so precious to me and I plan on writing them down instead of just talking about them. I tell lots of stories but just can't seem to get them on paper but one of these days. Actually I've written one about milking in one of my other entrys. I would like to link it here but I'm a novice at that right now. Trust me there is a story about milking. Here are some pictures of the house and barn, garden, and the cattle tunnel under the highway.

Do I smell or something.

Today is The Hubby's birthday. We went to the cabin last night to celebrate with our little family and friends, B&B2, A, The Hubby and myself. We had a nice time but I had to come back early today to cook up some casseroles for the family dinner I have planned to celebrate A's visit home and The Hubby's birthday. I sent the invite out over a month ago and and invited all of The Hubby's family and my family as I have done before. I didn't hear back and so planned that all would be in attendance, 26 to be exact. Today I get back and find out that 6 won't be in attendance, at the last minute. One I knew about on Thursday but today I find out the others are not coming. I know they have a long drive from Olathe but for goodness sake one is his oldest brother and wife and they are down through here nearly every week to their lake place at Lake Eufala so that shouldn't have been a problem. Okay, okay, okay, their excuse is that they are sick but I find that very convenient. You know we have been in this house for 2-1/2 years and I don't think that DD & Cher have spent over 30 minutes in our house. The last time A was home I had a get together and they couldn't make it and when the MIL turned 80 last year he was sick and chose to eat his meal in the backyard so as not to infect us. It just may be circumstances but this is getting way to weird for me. I'm beginning to think I smell or something or have offended them to the point that they will not set foot in our home. I wonder is they are jealous or mad at me or what. I was already ticked off at him because he never came to see his brother in the ICU and now this. I can't believe it. I've cooked for over 2 hours and then find out nothing!

Thursday

It is 10:25 a.m. and I'm still sitting at home in my pajama's sipping coffee. I slept in AGAIN till 9 this morning which is a real departure from my normal routine of 5 a.m. I've had to take it easy and really try to get better from this relapse. I have to get better. I will start packing the pounds on again if I remain sedentary.

Today, at 3:09 p.m. my little girl A, 23 years old is flying in from California. We haven't seen her since B & B2's wedding in March and I'm so looking forward to it. The weekend and week will be full so I've needed these couple of days to get some rest. Tonight we will have dinner with a bunch of The Hubby's family at his mother's retirement place, Monterrau. That will be nice. Tomorrow we will have lunch, all four of us at our favorite buffet, Bangkok (on 33rd & Harvard) then take off to the cabin for the night. We will celebrate The Hubby's birthday (23rd) with our lake friends. It will be me, The Hubby, A, B & B2 and whoever else is up there this weekend. Pop goes the cork! Saturday I will have to come back early because I have invited all of The Hubby's side of the family and my family to celebrate his birthday and the homecoming/visit of A. That would be about 26 people! I am making a couple of huge casseroles and salad and be done with it. I guess I need a cake but we'll see, I'll just have to purchase it if I need it.

When that is done then Sunday we will be going to another faux-family get together. The Hubby's best friend Kelly's family gets together a couple of times a year and we are the faux-family and always invited so Sunday that is going on. We also get to see Kelly's new granddaughter #2, Claire.

So my weekend is very, very full then we will only have about two full days to visit with A and allow her to see some of her friends in town before she will jet off back to sunny, earthquake prone California and her life there. I miss her terribly but she is very happy there with her beau, Gruno (yeah I know). One of these days my girls will both be close to me. I used to cry when they were little when they said they didn't want to live here in Oklahoma, Tulsa, anymore. Now I understand and respect their choices in life, their life. It is hard though.

I also tried to get with my friend because her birthday is the day after The Hubby but she is too busy with her "NEW JOB". What I asked her yesterday. When did she get a new job. I have talked to her a few times in the past month but she never, NEVER said anything about a job. It is part time on Thursdays but not a word! NOT A WORD! I'm her best friend, or so I thought, and NOT A WORD! I'm am used to having friends I can talk to about stuff, just everyday stuff, bad stuff, good stuff, just stuff but we don't even do that. I just don't get it. I think I will give her her wonderful birthday present sometime next week but I'm not putting the effort in her anymore. I am not getting out of this friendship what I need. I'm lonely since Gail and Momma died and you would think she would pick up the slack some but it has gotten worse. She has pulled into herself and her little world, her family. Now don't get all uppity about the family business but for God's sake her family consists of her, the husband and three GROWN children, ages 22,24, and 27. Yet she is so meshed in their lives that she is totally lost. She is eaten up and devoured by what is her family. She needs to find her again. I'm awful but I'm lonely and I'm sad that a friendship of 22 years has come to this but what do I do.

A Tale of Sandy the Yorkie

This morning has already been exciting and it is only 7:31 a.m. This is the tale of Sandy the Yorkie who I had never met before. I left Jazzercise early because of the previous post and was driving down Harvard and at about 65th as I was driving north I saw what looked like a rabbit slowly start to cross the road in front of me. I slowed down so as not to hit whatever it was and discovered it was a little dog although I couldn't tell what kind at that point. I stopped and so did the many cars behind me, put my flashers on, jumped out and picked up the little thing. It would surly have been hit if I had not pick it up and in hind sight I really could have had a horrible accident myself but things just happened. I jumped in my car and pulled into the neighborhood hoping to find the owner. Fortunately the little guy had tags, the vet, his rabies city tag and his name with the owners phone number, which they didn't answer. I saw a couple of ladies outside their homes and tried to see if they recognized Sandy but neither did. One lady I was lucky enough to visit with happened to volunteer with ASPCA and tried to help. Finally I decided to take Sandy to his vet since I was having no luck in the neighborhood. Little Sandy was an older tiny Yorkie with only one eye and just adorable. I found the vet that was close and waited till someone showed up. It was 7 am and there were no hours posted on the door so I waited. Next door was a doggie daycare place and I went in there at about 7:15 and asked the hours of the vet and if they recognized Sandy. About that time a vet tech pulled up and the doggie daycare lady said there you go. I hurriedly marched across the parking lot with Sandy in my arms and told the girl my story and she looked at the dog and said, "that's Sandy XXX." Finally I found his pseudo-home. She took him and I knew I had done my good deed for the day.

6:20 am

It is 6:20 a.m. and I'm at Jazzercise WATCHING the girls workout. I have been back to workout for exactly 6 days and now because of my infection and now I'm back to watching again. I got up this morning and felt the infection back again. I can not believe it. I hate this. It messes me up on my working out, more mentally than anything 'cause it is all I can think about. Now I have to call my personal trainer in about an hour and tell him I won't be there AGAIN! I want to be well so I can continue my weightloss and exercise plans. My mind is just a jumble of mush of worry and exhaustion from worry. AND to top off all this I have to tell The Hubby again that the fun bed stuff is on hold again because that is the region of infection. OH MY GOD! WHY ME for this junk. Man, I'm a little nauseous right now. LATTTERRRR!!!!!

A Peaceful Weekend - A light bulb moment

We are back from the cabin, rested and relaxed. I checked the messages and there was a VERY long one from the MIL letting us know that on of the nephews wives had another miscarriage. So very sad. They had one before their son and now two more. I think they might just give it up at this point. So sad.

I also opened the Saturday's mail and found the insurance letter about more of The Hubby's medical stuff. The hospital bill alone was $25,000 and now the ambulance/helicopter bill arrived and was $12,525. What with the doctor bills we will be out of pocket expense about $4,000-$5,000. YIKES, a volunteer project that cost us that kind of money. Oh well.
--------

I was just leafing through one of my many writing magazines and I just figured out something, a real light-bulb moment. I have always wanted to be a writer and recently decided that I would call myself a writer because I do write, here on these digital pages, but in the magazines I read and in some of the little classes I have taken there are so many steps to becoming a real writer. I think that is what is holding me back, not doing it "the right way". Hey, wait a minute is there a right or wrong way to write, probably but you know what I think writing is writing. In the magazines and classes there are so many articles and lectures telling you about the research of it and the grammar of it and it is just too much for me. I think I write just fine and trying to meet up the the expectations of the supposed guru's of writing can stop a person, like me in my tracks. I feel overwhelmed by the idea that I am not doing it right but is there a right way or wrong way.

I forgot

I almost forgot. I also found the nightie that I wore on our wedding night and my garter!

Found stuff

I have been in the mood to clean out boxes and closets and so at the office I remembered that there were boxes in a storage closet. Those boxes have been in storage behind piles of stuff for about 12 years so they needed to be gone through. I found books on how to draw, acrylic paints and brushes, counted cross stitch patterns, tons of fabric that was intended for quilts, my old papers written in my English Composition class and journals, craft ribbon, and the best thing - baby stuff. When B was little and the only grandchild in the family and the only girl grandchild she was called "The Kid", mainly by my parents. I was lucky enough to find a little t-shirt that said "The Kid" and wouldn't you know it but in that box of junk was that little t-shirt. I also found little crocheted dresses I made, crocheted shawls my grandmother made, and t-shirts that were A's that had "I was born at St. Francis Hospital." So very cool. Right now I am washing all of the fabric stuff as I also found mice droppings...YUCK! I have scrubbed my hands a lot in the past hour.

Closet cleanup - finished

I know it is confusing but there are clean pictures here and messy pictures. See if you can figure it out!

Mindless yada yada yada

I haven't been much in the mood to type/write stuff lately. I think I've hit a little of a dry spell. Actually, I haven't had the time to sit and just do it. I seem to be running all the time lately with absolutely nothing to really do or get accomplished. We finally have B in the office to give me some time off but I seem to be in the office all time anyway. Yesterday she was sick so I had to go in anyway. This afternoon I have to go in to make a deposit and get my address list I printed up for my meeting tonight here with my high school class reunion committee.

Yesterday I finally started back on my workouts after being off of them for about 5 weeks. First was The Hubby's accident then my bout with infection stuff. I am ready to get back to it. Today we did an assessment and I'm up 1.5 pounds!!!!YIKES! I guess that is to be expected after being off so long from exercise and eating the same+! My legs today are killing me they are so very sore. I will have to get back into it and I look forward to the pain as I know it is working! I want to be under 200 SO BAD and I'm just a few pounds away so I have to amp it up to get there.

This past weekend was really nice at the cabin. It was quiet with not many people there and then we hosted the get-together that grew from 7 to 12 but that was okay. I enjoyed the rain and I finished another book, A Wolf at the Table by Augusten Burroughs. I can't decide what to read next.

Today I am home from two workouts and need to pick up my house for the committee meeting tonight. I have finally finished cleaning out the guest room closet and now need to switch some of my clothes but just haven't had time to even finish that. I've been doing my laundry and keeping in in baskets and finally just dumped them on the guest bed so it looks like my closet and dresser drawers have thrown-up all over the place. I guess that is what I should tackle but (now I whine), I don't want too. It is so quiet this morning, not even my canaries or parakeet are making a sound. It's nice. I cleaned out one of the cages last night but I need to do the other two. So that is on the agenda for today.

Now for a little commentary...John Edwards...SHAME ON YOU! I have absolutely no tolerance on a man or woman who screws around on the spouse. I just don't. When we were first married and I was very naive I told The Hubby that if there ever was a discretion I would forgive him. A few years ago, The Clinton debacle, I retracted that statement and said if that happened he had better find a good lawyer because I would take him to the cleaners. I just have no tolerance for that, especially since she (Elizabeth) was sick when he (John) did it. Why can't people stay faithful. I just don't understand, don't understand. Okay I'm through ranting.

Guess I had better get off my keaster and get done what is on my list to do!

Best Laid Plans-Mucked Up

My plans have again been mucked up and The Hubby is not helping the matter, AT ALL! His birthday is the 23rd, also A is coming into town to visit so I had planned a huge family dinner in honor of both and for the joy of him being okay after the harrowing accident. I planned a bash at the lake on Saturday with friends and then Sunday a family dinner. My email just ringy-dingyed me and it was from the daughter of his best friend. She is going to be in town for a visit with her new little baby (#2) and so they are having a family do on Sunday with all of their extended family from across the continent. The Hubby is an honorary member of their family since he and Kel have known each other since they were 5 years old so we ALWAYS go to their do's. Now I'm in a quandary because The Hubby is like, "I told you I didn't' want a big party anyway." He wants to go to the other family do too. So I guess I will have to change all my plans and reschedule the family thing to Saturday and have a little do at the lake on Friday night. Best laid plans all mucked up!

The lake is very quiet today. There are not a lot of people here to cause a lot of ruckus. The possibility of rain is here as the clouds are overcast and uh oh I feel a few drops...better put the neighbors umbrella up to protect the laptop. We are hosting a little get together tonight with some other cabinites that we don't usually pal around with. We are cooking a chuck roast on the grill. Yes it can be done in about 40 minutes and it is delicious. Marinate it overnight in a plastic bag in: cooking sherry, vegetable oil, white wine vinegar (1/4 cup each), garlic, basil, Worcestershire sauce (2 Tbls each) and lots of Louisiana Hot Sauce. Grill for about 20 minutes on each side and it is like the poor mans steak for a lot of people. My sis-in-law, who doesn't cook, gave me the recipe. I'm also doing my famous sweet potatoes. I peel, cut up in chunks, like frying potatoes and coat with a little olive oil and jalapeno salt (check out Fiestaspices.com) and a little Splenda (or sugar)-about 1-2 tsp. then bake in a 400 degree oven till a little brown and tender, about 20-30 minutes give or take. Yummy

Tulsa C.A.R.E.S Fest!

Just wanted to pass along a festival this Saturday night at the River Parks Ampitheater. It's the Tulsa C.A.R.E.S.Fest and this is their first time to put on a fundraiser like this! There's going to be four bands, good weather (low 90's - YEAH!!), awesome jewelry by SheezKrafty (my kiddo and her friend)and a great cause to support! Check out the side bar and her MySpace page. They recycle jewelry and it is pretty cool.

Just Words

I haven't posted since Monday but feels like an eternity. I used to write in a journal and still do on the weekends but I have carpel tunnel in my right hand and hand writing sometimes is difficult, besides my fingers type faster than my handwriting and I have to keep up with the thoughts that pour out of my brain.

Last night we went to a banquet for the apprentice electricians that we send employees too for class training. Electricians have a four year apprenticeship, on the field and if they/you want there are schools for them also. After a four year apprenticeship in the field they are eligible to take a journeyman test which is very, very hard, you need the classroom to pass. There are a lot of calculations and code that you have to know to pass and be a GOOD electrician. Let's face it you don't want some "JoeBob" doing your electrical, it is very risky and dangerous. The National Electrical Code Book is about 2-1/2" thick with code that has to be followed and here in Tulsa it is very tough if you want anything inspected as a contractor so you had better follow the code. Anyway, back to the banquet. We only have one student in the school this year as nearly all of our employees are journeymen and the one student is our new son-in-law. He is a first year apprentice and last night was 1st year student of the year. B was so excited because we knew but he didn't and boy was he surprised. He actually hates that kind of stuff but too bad because we were very proud of him and besides he got free tools and a plaque.

I'm sitting here at Jazzercise this morning at 5:45 am not working out. I've been banned from working out at least until Friday (2 weeks now) by my doctor until I get healed and it is killing me. I go to see him tomorrow and hope he will give me the green light. I had been sleeping in since I can't work out but my partner Katy and I open the center every morning, turn the computer on and make the coffee, turn the A/C on, unlock doors,d sell passes, check people in, etc. Katy has been doing it by herself and truly it is a very easy but she gets all bumfuzzled if any hitches or kinks come up in the computer or the coffee is not made or whatever. DON'T SWEAT IT I told her. Really it is no big deal. Well, she emailed me yesterday after I slept in and complained so here I am and she is sleeping in . I'm a good person!

A New Printer

This morning I knew I had to deal with the stupid printer issues and my way to deal is to buy! I got B and she and I took her car to Office Depot and I spent another $499 for another printer and this time I bought the extended warranty, regardless of what The Hubby's policy is. I also found a couple of repair shops that hopefully will repair the stupid 2 month old printer that is sitting on the floor. I'll get it fixed and it can be a back up or I'll give it to B. Finally, after an hour of set up the new printer is working like a charm and I was ready to pay some bills. I entered 30 invoices into my Quickbooks and printed the checks but forgot that I needed to do a run through. I ended up printing on the wrong end of the "30" checks and had to void all of them, reprint then shred them. What a waste.

Oh my goodness it is so very hot today. The A/C at the office is having such a hard time keeping me cool. It is basically a metal building so go figure. At home the A/C has been running since I got home. I had kicked it up to 73 when I left this morning but when I hit home I cranked it down to 70 and it is still running to get there. EGADS! Tonight is going to be terribly uncomfortable sleeping. I hate being menopausal during the summer months. Why work out when you do enough sweating in your sleep.

Today Sis, Bro and I took our Daddy out for lunch for his 73rd birthday. I remember when my parents turned 36. I can't believe he is 73. We took him to McGills because they had a prime rib open faced sandwich for lunch and he LOVES prime rib. Guess what, he ordered fried shrimp? He said the open faced sandwich part just didn't sound good. Oh well, we had wonderful conversation and a nice meal and it was for Daddy. I kept my tongue in check when it came to possibly blurting my anger on the cat issue. I was a good girl.

Our shop/office is located in The Pearl district and in this area there is residential, commercial, and light industrial all mixed together. The area was a test area when developed some years ago. I preface this with the mixture stuff to set the scene. Next door to us on the south side is a mill, wood mill. They make everything from crown molding and even our new kitchen cabinets. To the north of us are houses, low rent, section eight kind of houses (not all). This weekend one of the houses two doors down burned, bad. We have done work for the little lady there. Her daughter usually calls and we have done various electrical stuff (the fire was not electrical). We found out she also has a son and we usually see him walking all over town and thought he was a transient. The little lady was in the hospital before the fire from trying to commit suicide because she didn't think anybody loved her. Her son was apparently living there and the fire started on the front porch from his smoking. The neighbors said that when the fire department arrived he was walking the sidewalks in his pajamas talking weird and sort of out there. Well, they took him off to the psych ward at the hospital. I can't imagine what the little lady is going to feel now that she has no home. So very sad.

Break-in

The Hubby went to his new building this morning and low and behold someone had pushed down a wall, crawled in and unlocked a new door that the alarm company has not had time to put on the system. Fortunately the area is the back and closed off from the rest of the building that is totally armed. He doesn't think anything was stolen mostly because he got rid of nearly everything in it and there is just nothing of value, except his new 1949 truck. Again, they didn't get into that part. So now he is trying to fix the wall back for the rest of the weekend and has been waiting for 2 hours for the police to arrive to take a report. Oh, and they also broke a window we think to check the sound detection but that window is covered with prison-like bars. Idiots, the world is full of them.

Kitty Update & returning merchandise -WHAT A DAY

It is Friday night and we decided not to go to the cabin this weekend. Just going to hang around her, at least I'm going to hang, The Hubby won't be able to sit around and will piddle at the shop/office. My cell phone just rang and it was my Sis. I really DID NOT want to talk to her. I had emailed our dad about the cat situation and our brother because I was so very angry. The first of the call was about us going to lunch on Monday. We are taking our father out for his birthday and she was very happy to find out that our Bro will be going with us. She is always on his case for not being more attentive to our father but it is between them, not us. I digress...the phone conversation then turned to the cat, Maggie. She tells me that for the record her husband did not shoot the cat or whatever was my worst thought. She told me he took it to a heavily populated neighborhood and let it go. This is a cat that has not been out of the house for about 5 years and it is totally set free in the heat of the summer and is basically wild. She said that maybe someone will take her in or the dog catcher will get her. I told her that if the pound caught her she will be put down and why didn't they just take her to the vet themselves and do it than letting the poor little suffer, which is what will happen. She doesn't know how to feed herself, kill a mouse or anything and what about water. GOD! I can't believe the stupidy of some people and that some people is my own family! What possesses people to think a domesticated animal can take care of itself in the "wild". It will not happen and that poor little Maggie will die a horrible death this summer and I hope someone saw him do it and got his license number on his vehicle and turns him in! Stupid, stupid, stupid people. Can you tell I'm angry.

Really not a day to get me mad because I was already fuming from my little trip to Best Buy today. On May 30, I purchased two (2) HP color laser printers for $299 each. Today, the one at the office started squealing and quit working. THANK GOD I had just finished payroll printing. So I found the receipt and when we called we were told to bring the printer and the receipt in. I loaded the heavy thing in my little car and toddled off in the August heat to get some satisfaction. I arrived and went inside and asked someone to come and get it as it weighed a ton and I wasn't going to lift it (The Hubby put it in my car). I waited in the heat for 5 minutes till someone finally came out with a cart and then I had to repark and go inside. I get inside at the customer service desk and hand the girl my receipt expecting wonderful customer service. What I got was we're sorry but since you didn't buy the 2 year extended warranty all they could do was pack it up and send it off to HP for repair or they could give me an 800 number to call to get a box to pack it up to send it off for repair. I asked if they couldn't exchange and she repeated the 2 year crap. I said well what is your policy and she did a spiel about on the backside of the receipt is the policy for returns which is "VERY FINE PRINT"! I was fuming. I said never mind and said thanks for no help and turned around and marched out the door with my broken printer. The same guy helped me load it and I told him he was helpful but that I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER THING IN THEIR STORE! I am not a person who returns ANYTHING, ever. I hate to return and usually will just chunk it and buy another but on $299 that is another thing but it looks like that is just what I'm going to have to do as I HAVE to HAVE a printer by next week. I'm not handwriting 50+ checks next week! I guess I'll have to buy another one, maybe a cheap one and then send this one in for repair. MAKES ME CRAZY!

Thursday - half/day

I went into the office for about 3 hours this morning, just long enough to do a couple of paychecks - early - because one of our guys is a fireman and only works for us part time. Tomorrow will be the rest of the payroll. We had a lighting rep take The Hubby and myself for lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant, El Rio Verde, wet burrito with steak YUM!!! Also found out that our son-in-law will be named 1st year apprentice of the year at the school we send him to. He doesn't know yet but will be announced on Tuesday at a banquet. Pretty exciting.

I haven't been able to exercise but about 6 times since The Hubby's accident and my stress related skin irritations and so I've been kind of worried that I might start plumping up a bit but I've really been trying to watch it with Slim Fast for breakfast and dinner supplemented with fruit. I think it is working because my wedding ring and my ruby ring I wear on my right hand just spin around and yesterday I washed my hands and when I shook the excess water my wedding ring fell off in the floor! I guess I am going to have to have a temporary sizer put on it so I can wear it until I lose all I'm going to lose. It's a really good feeling and when I try on clothes in my closet I haven't had on in awhile because they were too tight I find out they are too big! That is a great surprise.

My "friend" finally called last week to see if I wanted a kitten...no. Then we chatted about her kids and I interjected that my husband was doing really well. Then I called her on Tuesday to see if her daughter that lives in California was okay since the earthquake along with a quick my daughter is okay. That was left on her voice mail and then finally yesterday afternoon I hear from her back. Her husband called last week sometime or wait maybe Monday and invited us to meet them for drinks and appetizers at the Summit Club tonight. So I have to go digging in my closet to find SOMETHING to wear that will be appropriate. That may be a task.

Right now I'm taking advantage of my half/day to blog, watch my soaps and maybe nap a little.

1949 Dodge

Here is The Hubby's new big boy toy and I encouraged him...funny those life and death instances make you think about things differently.

It's quiet here.

I am writing this at the cabin, technically neighbors cabin using Grumps Internet connection across the street. Harry and Jimbo are gone for the day, actually until tomorrow morning along with Sin and Bare. So it will be very quiet here. The Hubby left to go back to town this morning and won't be back so I'm by myself for the rest of the day and night. It's so quiet here. The holiday is over and it is hot so most are not up here. There are no golf carts zooming by and construction is done for the weekend and since it is so hot and dry the grass is not growing so no mowing. I hear birds and bugs buzzing around. In fact a little hummingbird just buzzed my head under this umbrella and just hung out and stared at me for a few seconds.
I'm going to use this time today to:
* Write this entry
* Write in my paper journal
* Read blogs
* Write letters
* Read my book, finish it and start another
* and tonight maybe watch a movie, The Kite Runner

It's quiet here!
________________________________________
It has been an awful week for me, medically. I had some issues, skin issues in the nether regions that caused me lots of sleepless nights, pain and just plain fear. On one of those nights of sleeplessness I started going over my history of skin eruptions and found a big correlation - STRESS and how I handle it.

1970 - My great grandfather passed away and it was my first funeral. I broke out in horrific hives that apparently were partially internal which made me vomit a lot along with the itching. Stress event 1

1970 - My first formal dance. My date had to bring me home early because I broke out in hives and hives just don't wear well with a formal gown. Stress event 2

2005 - My reluctant acceptance to do the books/accounting of our lake homeowners financial stuff. I developed a rash all over my upper half of my body, especially on my chest. Itch city and many, many visits to the dermatologist and lots of money spent to have it completely gone 2 days after I resigned the position. I was not sleeping and was a basket case with the heaviness of the responsibility of the job, a volunteer job. Stress event 3

Jan-Feb 2008 - B & B2 planning and having a wedding...my arms were in a constant itchy rash. Wedding over and within a month it cleared up on it's own. I also was sick as a dog with a cold and no voice. Stress event 4

July 5, 2008 - The Hubby is in a very scary fireworks accident which results in a stay in ICU Burn on a vent for 3 days. Stress event 5

I was very strong and calm and handled it all well. The ensuing result is my stress popped out in skin issues and painful skin ulcers in places that are not seen. All this was made worse by my regular doc being on vacation, my GYN is on vacation, my dermatologist is on vacation. I was told to go to a minor emergency. I'm NOT taking my nether region to a minor emergency! Stress is piled onto stress as the skin eruption is getting worse and spreading and I'm even more stressed by this and the worry that I'm not sleeping and I'm very uncomfortable and FREAKED OUT. Finally, after crying on the phone to a nurse in the dermatologist office I am allowed to see the PA, which I thought was a woman. When I did meet Terry, it was a guy, but I was that point of ANYTHING! I'm healing with tons of antibiotics but this has all made me think about how I deal with stress. When The Hubby was first in the emergency room on the vent and I was sitting there watching him all alone I had the intense need for pen and paper. I NEEDED to write what I was feeling but there was none to be had. Maybe if I had written my feelings instead of bottling them up, or even if I had fallen apart the stress might not have manifested itself in the skin stuff. If, if, if. Well, I'm writing now and I'm going to have to keep a little notebook in my purse for the next stress event.

A Tale of Two Birds

Funny thing happened when we returned from the lake this weekend. My new male canary that sings so pretty laid an egg. This is not the first time that it has happened to me. When I came home yesterday there were two eggs. Today when I came home the little bugger had kicked one of the eggs out of it's grit cup and it was broken all over the bottom of the cage. I called the animal supply store that told me FOR SURE it was a male and paid $80. for a male. They said that I could come get a male that has been singing for the cost of the female $60. That would mean a new cage and The Hubby told me to go ahead and do it. YIPPEE... I would put it in the same cage but I've had disastrous things happen when we did that the last time. The male canary literally screwed the female to death, very tragic.

So here are my new canaries with a little switch on the names since the he was a she. The male is Neo (left) and the female is Trinity (right)...(The Matrix).

What is so strange is that little Trinity sings not as magnicifent as Neo but she stills sings and usually the males only sing. When I got home with Neo and his new cage I put him in his new digs and went to the bathroom and then all of a sudden he was singing like nobodys business. Fantastic.

Meeting The Hubby

The year was 1975, March 23rd to be exact. I was approaching a full year of being out of high school and I had absolutely no direction. I was working at a kitchen gadget store, The Fair Annex at Utica Square, an open-air outside-mall, making nothing. It was a hole in the wall place, literally. The store was a side store down a long hallway that was probably not 8’ wide. It was tiny and there was no future, none. In my era and the small town I was from the attitude was you get married and have children, not necessarily in that order, and so that was my plan for my future, the problem was finding the guy. If you got out of high school that was a plus but there was no push to even go to college, especially if you were a girl. My grandfather offered to send my little brother to college but did he even think to offer me the chance, no. Did my brother take the chance, briefly then he ended up working in a machine shop like our father and our other grandfather, not that it was bad but I felt that he was still stuck in that small town. My future was bleak really. I was destined to work retail, a checker for the rest of my life.

My parents had gotten hooked on CB radios and they started making a lot of friends in the area and our house was called the BA Parking Lot. This guy, Lyndell, who graduated a year before me and his wife, Jana, became friends with my parents. I never ran around with the guy in school, but he and his wife soon became a fixture in our house. Jana and Lyndell lived in a little house in Tulsa and the “younger” group of people would often hang out at their house too.

I was spending most of my time in the evenings “dragging” Main with my friends or by myself and meeting up with guys on the corners of the local convenience store or Tastee Freeze. Occasionally, I would go out with one of the guys but there was really no future in them. I never really had a serious guy in my life, at least on their end of the relationship. In my mind I was always Mrs. Somebody but they were never the right match. One evening Jana and Lyndall were having a birthday party or something and they made sure I was to be there. I showed up in my bell bottom-hip-hugger jeans and halter top, no bra, bare foot, and my straight hair hanging down past my butt, my usual attire. I was well endowed and had lost a lot of weight so I was pretty tiny, about 115 pounds, mostly in the bottom half. I was a wanna-be hippie and I fully admit it.

My brother and I came in my car, a 1969 Chevy Malibu, chocolate brown with a white top. I was very protective of it since I was still making payments on it. He later drove it home and I was not happy about that but that also left me without transportation. There were a lot of people there and one of the couples who showed up was Gail and Kelly. They were newlyweds and were friends with Jana. Gail had gone to junior high and high school with Jana. In fact they had all four gone to school together some time or another. Gail and Kelly also brought a guest, R. He was tall and skinny and the best was his long blonde hair, I loved it, just my type. He was very cute and had a fantastic smile. Later I found out that they practically dragged him there. He was supposed to call and meet up with his old flame and possibly get back together with her that night but Gail and Kelly insisted he come and meet this girl, even though they had never met me they knew I had to be better than what he was about to go back to.

We played volleyball outside and after the eats we all went inside. R and I settled down on the floor and played cards. I’m not sure what we played but I beat the socks off of him. I was and still am very good at cards. I spent a lot of time playing solitaire. Not much of a social life. We laughed and talked and had the best time. He was so darned cute. It got very late, about 2 or 3 a.m. and I needed to go home. I wasn’t about to spend the night there, my parents wanted me home so what was a girl to do. R offered to take me home in his cute little orange Volkswagon super beetle complete with a sunroof. I climbed into his little bug and immediately sat on my crossed legs with dirty bare feet showing and sang to the radio all the way home along with some conversation. He pulled into my driveway and asked if he could call me. I said yes and he got into his glove box and got a little spiral notebook and pen and took my name and number down. I was impressed with his readiness with the proper stuff to capture my info. He went around and opened my door and then escorted me to the door and then he kissed me very lightly on the lips. I was absolutely on cloud nine.

The next morning, I should say afternoon since I slept in till about noon my phone rang and it was Jana. (I had my own line I bought and paid for.) Jana was pumping me on what I thought of R and on Gail’s end she was talking to R and what he thought of me. They were playing matchmakers big time. Jana told me that Gail told her that R said I was build like a brick shit-house. He liked me a lot and I liked him a lot. Back and forth the phone calls went and then R called me. He asked if I would like to go to the zoo and then maybe a movie.

I of course said yes and the first date was set. He showed up and met my parents and my bro and sis. We had a wonderful day at the zoo. Later we went to see The Great Waldo Pepper with Robert Redford. He then took me to his house for a glass of his mother’s famous sweet iced tea. I met his brother S and his mother.

It was an awesome day and I was in love. It was love at first sight. He was nice. He was fun and he made me laugh and still does. He was a gentleman, a big plus, and he called me back. Most of the time with other guys I would go out with once and that would be it, they never called me back. I was so upset most of the time that they never took the time to know ME, the real me. R took that time. After that initial meeting we talked every day when we weren’t with each other. We were in love. He was just the most wonderful and gentle guy and I couldn’t stand not being with him. We would spend literally hours on the phone with each other when we were away from each other and it soon became evident that would be together forever.

That first meeting was March 22, 1975. He told me he loved me May 23, 1975 and by June 23, 1975 he had asked for my hand in marriage after talking to my father. We were married January 23, 1976. Now he is known as The Hubby.

Better

He's getting better every day. The Hubby finally had a bowl of potato soup and he finished the whole bowl scraping the sides and he said it even tasted good. You do not know how good that has made me feel. The poor guy last night tossed and turned and only slept about 2 hours. I just want him to eat and sleep so he will feel better. He's having weird dreams and reliving the whole nightmare of the explosion and I think that is eating on him. He's not said so but I think he's dealing with being almost 53 years old and his father dying at 53 years old. I know it has bothered him as he approached this age and then to have a life and death experience happened it has bound to have effected him.

I think today I'm kind of having some intense feelings of wanting to break down. I really never did as I had to be strong for B (A is still in CA). I've had moments of almost losing it but then I would have to answer the numerous phones and questions and there just wasn't a time to lose it. I had his cell phone, my cell phone. At home there were the cells then two lines on the home phone and the same at the office. I've had to retell the whole story over and over again to the point of nausea.

We have gone from a few days ago a machine breathing for him to he's sitting in the other room on his computer checking his emails. It's all so surreal if you know what I mean. It's one of those bumps in the road of life that trip you up and make you stop and take stock in your life and your future. Wow!

A Lot of Healing to go.

He has a lot of healing to go. Last night was a rough night as his legs were very fidgety and he just couldn't get them to stop. He tried to sleep on the couch for awhile and finally came to bed after about an hour but it was still rough for him. I made sure we got to sleep in for a bit but he was still up at 6:30 this morning. I got up and he was in the living room trying to choke down his usual oatmeal but he was having a hard time. Finally, it had to go down the garbage disposal.

We had our showers and then he asked where his keys were. Uh oh. Then I set the ground rules. I told him he could go into the office but not job sites or meetings at all. He stuck to the plan all day long. While he was at the office I went and picked up his glasses that were broken in the blast from the repair place. That was awful for B as she was the one who found them in the field the next day.

We spent the whole day at the office but I insisted he go home about 3:30 as he was looking pretty tired. Home, I told him I would fix some potato soup and he thought it sounded good but he specified very little salt. The poor guys tongue, mouth, throat and lips are burned so it is so hard for him to eat. On top of that I think his taste buds are burned so he can't taste but he can sure hurt. His appetite is gone and he's staying a little queasy. I feel so bad for him and feel that I can't do anything for him to help. He's also so weak and tired from not sleeping even though he spent three days on a ventilator, asleep.

The Grand-Dog

Now for a light entry. This is Mondo, my grand-dog.

Relief

What a relief it is to have my guy finally home, safe and under MY care. When we arrived home he was so very happy but very unsteady on his feet. His friend Kelly helped get him home and was here for a few hours while he took his shower and shaved. Then just as Kelly was going to leave to get some lunch the doorbell rang and a friend brought BBQ to eat. Good. He didn't eat a lot but at least he is able to eat. Now it is almost 2 pm and he is down for a nap and I'm trying to also but the various cell phones and house phone keeps ringing. Friends are bringing dinner tonight and tomorrow night and others are dropping in to see him tonight. I'm very relieved he is home and now it is hitting me and I'm getting emotional that it is over and he is safe and sound. That was a very, very close call and I don't EVER want to go through it again.

He's Home

He's home and glad to be. No shower since Friday so he's in there scrubbing now. Glad he's home and now I can release. I seem to be on the verge of tears now that the crisis is over. Thanks to all who have kept up with this.

More update

As I have written the tube is out and The Hubby had a liquid lunch today. It was rather funny to watch him try to hit his mouth with wiggly jello and a wiggly hand but he managed to drink all that was on the tray. Every minute of the day the fog in his mind has diminished. He is so ready to go home already but they want him there for another 24 hours. He also wanted to have his cell phone for work but thank goodness no cell phones in ICU. He looks really good but as he said he is a little toasty smelling, literally. His eyebrows are a little shorter and so there is the smell of toasty burned hair and no shower. Funny.

Now that The Hubby is on the mend I will write a little about the hospital and the employees. The doctors and the nurses have been absolutely fabulous, fabulous, although one little incident with a nurse was very bad. On Sunday morning, early, my brother and wife went up there to visit and since it is ICU they had to be buzzed in and directed to the room The Hubby is in. Now mind you I told my bro that The Hubby was not burned bad and that he was going to be fine. The nurse led my brother to a room where a man was laying, totally bandaged and oozy and told them he was burned over 90% of his body. My brother and wife were in absolute total shock. I didn't talk to him until that evening and then realized that they had sent them to the wrong patient. My brother thought I was delusional. The agonized all day long over the prospect of the imminent death of my husband when it was not true. Absolutely horrible. Plus the nurse told one of our employees and his wife all about my husband and his medical stuff...uh HIPPA violation I think.

Next I will comment on the nasty, nasty bathroom that we had to use then the stupid pretense of washing our hands and put on sterile robes and gloves after that. That bathroom was disgusting and that is all I'm gonna say.

Hopefully The Hubby will be home by Thursday. Stay tuned.

New update on The Hubby

The took the breathing tube out this morning about 11 am and the first thing he said was, "When the hell can I go home." He is still feeling the effects of the medicine and is a little loopy but he was able to feed himself a liquid lunch and is napping again. More later.

The Hubby update Monday - The Golden Driller

Here is the latest update on The Hubby. First of all thank you all for the good wishes and thoughts. It means tons to know all the good vibes are out there. Now on to the update:

We got a little excited when I called this morning and they told me that he was waking up and that they might take the tube out. Well, we went in to see him and he looks great. He will open his eyes and try to talk, wants to talk. He holds you hand and WILL not let it go even while asleep and boy does he have a grip.
When a friend of B's came in that works at the hospital he pointed to her and B told him it was Jessica, he waved at her and then gave her a thumbs up. He wants to hold your hand the whole time but he has a very, very strong grip and will not let it go. The nurse told us he is calmer when we are there. They told us that they would probably take the breathing tube out today but the blood gases were not at the levels they would like so they have upped the med's again and he deep sleeping again. They hope to try again tonight but more than likely tomorrow. I HOPE! We really don't like seeing him this way. It is really tough on B. She just wants to see her big strong daddy without that thing in his mouth and awake. Our girls always thought that their father was The Golden Driller and is why it is on my page so to see him down like that is hard.
