Random 5 Friday

It's that time for Random 5 Friday hosted by A Rural Journal...come join in the fun:

1.  2 a.m. is way too early for this girl to wake up but it is what it is.  I don't know why I am constantly waking up at 2.  Sometimes I can go right back to sleep but this morning, NOPE, wide-eyed-and-bushy-tailed I was.  Tried to just close my eyes and drift off, but no.  Then read a bit.  Television...none of it worked so 4:10 a.m. and I just got up.  Makes me nuts but usually I can go all day and not be tired.  Could be that I just got so much sleep the past couple of days because I was SICK!

2.  Sick, yes I have had a bellyache, and I mean bellyache.  Gosh it was crazy the cramping and "other", but I think I'm on the mend.  Definitely taking it easy with the food.

3.  I did feel well enough yesterday to go to the office for a bit and then the grocery store.  Took a bit out of me but I was determined to get my agenda fulfilled for the day.  Since the weather was AWESOME  I planted in my already tilled garden, potatoes, onions, lettuce and spinach.  That done I was SPENT!  But it is in the ground and I am quite happy.  Here's to fresh stuff.  (I know The Hubby and I have sort of given up potatoes, but NEW POTATOES, well that is a different subject and we will partake!)

4.  On that little note, I have decided that it is time to get serious with the diet again and get back on Jorge Cruise's The 100 Diet.  It's really counting sugar calories but since June of last year I have dropped 25 pounds, 5 of which I have put back on.  For The Hubby this is a great diet because his triglycerides are usually HIGH, scary high.  Mine have never been an issue.  He doesn't have a weight issue AT ALL, but his blood work can be a issue.  Since we've pretty much given up potatoes, pasta, and bread it is amazing how easy it has been.  Now don't get me wrong we do get "a-hankering" for the stuff and indulge but not often.  I told The Hubby the other day that it is amazing how I rarely go down the middle of the grocery store anymore, no processed stuff.  I buy fresh vegetables, meats and some frozen stuff for convenience.  Stuff like veggies, fish and chicken.  I have some goals, not only health.  A ball at the end of April for a DVIS (Domestic Violence Intervention Services) fundraiser, a doctors appointment, and my 40th class reunion in the fall.

5.  My oldest high school bestie found out this week she may be headed to Phoenix with her job.  I am not happy about that as we have just found each other again a few years ago, but it is what it is and I know it would NOT be permanent.  She's kind of had a rough time and I hope things work out for her which ever way they may.  I'm just so happy that we have found each other again, forever!  I love her dearly.

I have those cycles where I'm up at crazy hours - but usually I need a little nap later in the afternoon to balance it out. Hope you are feeling up to speed again soon. Well done on the weight loss - eating healthy isn't always easy. I think yesterday was the first time I've had bread in months - and wouldn't you know it, it was paired up with some gluten free pasta - again, something I haven't had in ages. Sometimes you just need to make an exception.

I have the wide awake blues some nights too. I find it best to just get up and do something. I love that painting!

Oh I hate it too when I wake up like that and can't go back to sleep. Hopefully you don't feel tired today.
So sorry to hear you didn't feel well. I had that problem about 2 weeks ago and spent all of one day and part of another in bed recuperating. Not fun.
Wow, planting already. We don't grow a garden as no one has the time to tend it. But I do love fresh produce and there is always plenty of that around here.
Thanks for the info on the Diet.
Hey I have a 40th reunion this year too.

That 2 a.m. thing, been there - done that! I find I get stuff done and make the best of it, as you did. Loving the fact that you have your garden tilled and started planting! We have to wait until Memorial day weekend here.

Being sick can mess with your Circadian rhythms ... once you start feeling well again, I am guessing your sleep cycle will get back to normal. Sorry about being sick ... not fun or easy. But, your focus on your health is a great thing. Now is the time because down the road it will make a difference. Good for you. As for planting your garden when you aren't feeling well ... what do you do when you are feeling well? When I am down and out ... I stay down and out. I think you are amazing. With technology today you can always be in touch with your BFF ... use SKYPE ... you can talk to each other in person every day. Have a great week, Jill ... and I hope you get some rest.

I tend to wake up around 4 am. It is a really good night if I make it to 6 am.

Good for you on the gardening, especially in view of not feeling well.

4:00 am is my usual time to get up, no matter when I go to bed.

Never have I ever had the problem of waking up so early and staying awake. Lately, I can't seem to wake up before noon. Granted, I don't need to as my work hours are odd but, seriously, mornings have never been my thing (you know this WELL!). I guess you didn't pass that down to me...I am my grandmother's granddaughter ;) Could be age as well but, I think this will stay with me for life.
Sleep is sacred to me and I LOVE it. It's vital for me. If I don't get 8 hours, my immune system suffers.
Glad you're buying so much fresh stuff. I've gotten totally spoiled by the produce in CA. I'll keep canned goods in the pantry for emergencies but otherwise, it's all fresh. I wish we had a yard for a garden. Ahhh apartment living!
And watch those low carb diets…my high oxalate levels from the paleo diet is what made my kidneys go bizerk. BALANCE.
I hope your stomach thing levels out. You've always had problems with that :( Sensitive. Maybe you're gluten intolerant? Have you thought about allergy testing??
