The Norwood

Max

Today lots of prayers please.  He’s in such good standing that he’s been cleared for surgery today. This first surgery is called the Norwood. It is the longest and hardest but most necessary. This morning we will all be on pins and needles waiting for a most perfect outcome for this big boy. Prayers, lots of prayers please.

Updated Max News - Prayers and Good Vibes Needed

This is from our youngest and the journey they going through with sweet baby Max that is due end of December.

20 weeks today - halfway through…

The most recent pictures of our Max

❤️
We debated sharing, but have realized that we need all the prayers and support possible.
The good news first: this last week at the routine 20 week anatomy scan ultrasound, they told us that Max is a big boy in the 94th percentile for size with all limbs accounted for. That’s great news.
Then the bad news….
We discovered that he has some major issues with his heart.
We have initial diagnoses but won’t know for sure until we see a pediatric cardiologist next week.
Things we know:
We’re looking at a good chance of him having a serious genetic condition called tuberous sclerosis or TS/TSC. Evidence of rhabdomyomas (benign tumors) in his heart are present.
He has mitral valve atresia which will almost definitely need multiple staged surgeries to treat.
I was reassured that none of this has anything to do with my age or anything I did or didn’t do. It is a roll of the dice.
They want me to go as long as possible till delivering because the bigger and stronger he is, the better his heart will perform on its own once they cut the cord. And I will be delivering at the pediatric hospital in Oklahoma City at OU. My due date is the week after New Years.
As you may imagine we were shocked, deeply saddened, and are now facing the grief of what we hoped would be a “normal”, healthy pregnancy and baby.
He will most likely survive, at least that is what we know now. Things could change for better or worse with more information. Life could, and will at times, be a very challenging one for him and us.
But he is already so loved and we are going to fight with our every last fiber of being to carry him, quite literally, to the finish line.
And we need your prayers. Please put us on prayer lists, light candles, start novenas, anything you can do to storm heaven. We are praying that it’s not as serious as it seems.
How are we doing?
We are okay. Most of the time I think we’re in disbelief. Nothing that some chuckling at silly internet cat videos can’t treat. At other times I am frozen and can’t stop the tears.
Next appointment is Wednesday. Until then...

St. Maximilian Kolbe, ora pro nobis!

Mini

It started with this...

and progressed to this...
I arrived a couple of days before the due date to make sure and be around for the birth.  We waited and waited.  We played cards, put jigsaw puzzles together and even went to see Downton Abbey...we waited and waited...

Finally, the evening of September 30 (my sweet mother-in-laws 92nd birthday) and things started happening.  A contraction here and there but nothing.  Tuesday, October 1 (Snicklefritz's 7th birthday!) she called the doctor and they said come to the hospital and see if you are in labor and since it was past the due date they would probably keep her.  All through the night she labored and most of the next day, October 2.  Then finally Miss Mini made her way into our world, our hearts, our lives.

7 lbs 15 oz, 21 inches long and such a beautiful little spirit already.  She doesn't get overly upset and quiets really fast.

Our lives are so enriched by the addition of sweet Mini into our lives and completes this little family.

Summer Fun

Sunrise, sunset, slowly go the years...
It has been a whirlwind of nearly two weeks celebrating and spending much needed family time with THE ENTIRE FAMILY!  My happy place with my most happy family rushed off to the cabin for the annual fireworks show and incredible sunsets.

First, a quick update on Clayton.  He is doing so well and hopefully the bandages will come off today.  He's spinning for his dinner and has been caught jumping up on the furniture, sometimes not successfully.  Our little guy is on the mend.  He has been playing with his doggy friends Mondo and Vinny which was a great joyful surprise.  He is eating and sleeping like a champ.  I think we will have him around for a few more wonderful years.
As I said before Af and Nick drove in from LA for a visit and a baby shower for the new munchkin that arrives in October.

All the girls are here.  Three generations in attendance.

Time spent with their goofball dad...

My wonderful, WONDERFUL girls!!!!!

Then, we as an entire family unit, scooted off to the cabin to enjoy the annual fireworks show (I don't enjoy anymore after The Hubby's fireworks accident several years ago!)  I was in charge of the four-legged friends, Clayton, Mondo and Vinny since the big guys have a bit of fear with fireworks.
We lounged...
We ate...
We laughed and had a most wonderful time before the tribe grows by one in a few short months.
My summer is complete.

Babies and Dance

Snicklefritz update.....Cuteness!
Oh my goodness how do I love this little girl.  She just makes my heart go pitty-pat when she runs up to me and says, "Granny!"

I've been very busy making lots and lots of baby blankets.  I have six friends who are going to be first time grandmothers (5 girls and 1 boy) and I have always crocheted baby blankets, ever since I was in high school.  In fact, my first one was for my General Business, Typing teacher, Mrs. Maples when she was to have her first child.  She had a little girl, Karen and that kiddo is in her 40's now.  WHAT!  Yup.  The first blanket I made I was 16 years old so it is nearly 45 years old and Rio plays with it everyday.  You can't even tell it is that old.  Guess we should put it up but why.

Snicklefritz snapped this little jewel with my camera.  That girl is a natural picture taker!

I forgot to mention this past weekend that The Hubby and his dance partner Tina were in a competion and danced a routine they had been practicing for nearly two months.  They did an awesome job.  Tina is a wonderful dance partner for him, thank goodness it's not me, and I support them fully!

New Birth

My dear best friend Christine is a grandmother!  Last night after 9 hours of labor her oldest daughter had this sweet little girl at home.  Christine had all three of her children at home with a midwife and that same midwife that attended her births was in attendance of this lovely being introduced into the world.  Please welcome to the world Ellis Christine!  Congratulations my friend!
