Weekend Fun

Thought it was time to touch base again.  Life cycles on and on and on.  This past weekend The Hubby had some dance stuff going on as will be with the next weekend.  He's been practicing and practicing nearly every evening but I'm fine with that.  He is doing something he loves and I am fully supportive of it, just as long as I DON'T have to do it.  He has a great dance partner too and she has become a great friend to me.

Since he was going to be gone most of the weekend I chose to see if little Snicklefritz would like to spend the weekend with me.  She was so excited but I was afraid it wouldn't happen as she has had a nasty coughing virus and sore throat, not strep (thank goodness!)  We tried painting yesterday morning but I was just not feeling it, although she was!  So excited she can write her own name now!  You know, she eats totally with her left hand but paints and writes with her right.  Way to use your brain my dear!
Since the weather was so beautiful yesterday we went outside in the afternoon, pajamas and all, and soaked up some of that fabulous sunshine.  She loved looking at all my flowers that are popping out.
Old-fashioned lilac that was here when we bought the house and has been transplanted twice!
Lilac I had planted.  I love the deeper color.
My double Japanese Kerria.
I've been on a run with the painting stuff.  I have two paintings in the Broken Arrow Museum and two more hanging at The Wild Fork in Utica Square for the next couple of months.  Hopefully, something will sell.  I've got workshops ongoing and some coming up that I'm excited about.  I just don't have enough time to devote my entire mind into my painting lately.  One of my ongoing workshops we've been doing some black and white perspectives and that has been great fun and I find I'm quite good at.

I'm also doing the 5x5 Show that is the Tulsa Artist Coalition only fundraiser each year.  I've participated every year since 2009 all but one.  I thought I would do this one covered in lips, every kind of lip I could find in my friends and family.  This is just the beginning of all the lips I've drawn.  Can't decide the background color.  Thinking black with red, pink, and coral lips.

And of course I'm always on the hunt for the next great painting and on Thursday evening we went out to eat at Ol'vine, the old Sonoma.  It's the restaurant where we got the idea of mirrors on our fence.  They had an entire wall totally covered with all kinds.  But, they have remodeled and one of the things is these great barrels with flowers.  Going to make that happen!

Last weekend we headed to the cabin where my Carolina Jasmine was in full bloom.  Oh, so beautiful and fragrant and full of honey bees!  I had to make a head wreath to wear!
May have to paint this!

Slow Down Please

Sometimes I wish my world would slow down a bit.  This week, the past couple of weeks are just flying by and I find I don't have enough minutes, or hours in my day.  I have been painting but it has been an effort to find the time.  I finished this one on Saturday and I think I'm pleased with it.  It's big, like 18x24 or 20x24, not sure size.
I went to the Broken Arrow Museum show opening that my group Alpha Rho Tau has for the next month.  I took Daddy and that was fun to introduce him to some of my painting friends and share that he was #43 in the football painting.  Haven't sold anything, YET!  Hopefully it happens.  Plus Sunday I delivered two paintings to Wild Fork at Utica Square that will hang there for two months.  Hopefully they will sell!

In the art thing I've been still attending my Tuesday art classes and I've recently added a Monday afternoon with a guy named Gil Adams.  I was still in the frame of mind to do a black and white and did this of Snicklefritz.  I'm not happy with it as it has her to old and I'm going to fix it, maybe today.  I've got to shorten her face to make her younger.  This portrait thing I'm extremely interested in perfecting.  In fact, in June I will attend a 4 day workshop with some guy from the Philippine's that specializes in portrait's and I just ordered a DVD from a guy in Australia that I like.  It's a constant learning thing.

I did this one in my regular art class with Ross Myers yesterday.  It was more of a tonal one with a bit of burnt umber added to the black and white but I absolutely love it.

Dreams of Retirement

I've been thinking about priorities in life, my life in particular.  We are so close to that retirement time and The Hubby is constantly, CONSTANTLY talking, thinking and planning it.  I just wish he would be satisfied financially and pull the trigger already.  He talks about another 5 years and that means another 5 years for me and you know what, I DON'T WANT to do another 5 years.  In reality, since we are partners in the business I have to stick with it but I am trying to pull in a little of what I want to do in retirement with my art.  It's just that I don't have enough time in my day to do all the things I have to do and the things I want to do.  I have to work at the office.  I have to do laundry, grocery shop, cook, clean...YUCK!  I want to paint, read, cross stitch, exercise, sleep, sit and stare up at the sky.  I get my fair amount on the weekends but I really want everyday to be that.  Marketing your art, let alone creating it, takes some time and effort, especially if you are not in a gallery.  I just don't have enough time to get it all done.  My painting time is down to a couple times a week and that is just not enough.  I'm afraid that if we keep plugging away year after year we aren't going to get to enjoy retirement like The Hubby wants, but he is so driven.  In fact, I'm not sure he could even do retirement, but I can assure you, I CAN!  So I guess we have to really push the next few years to set it all up for ourselves.

Crap, Crud, ICK!

Yes, I have the crap, the crud, the ICK yet again.  Was so totally afraid that I had the flu because our right hand man came down with it this weekend and ended up in the hospital with pneumonia.  He's asthmatic so they were extra cautious and were prompt in giving him breathing treatments.  Poor guy, he's the one who lost his wife a couple of years ago from ovarian cancer.  Supposedly they are sending him home today!  Scary.  So when I started down the sick path I immediately had the flu test done.  Have you ever had that done.  OH MY GOODNESS...they stick, well, sticks way up your nose and you cough, sneeze, cry but good news is that I DO NOT have the flu.  I have an upper respiratory infection so it was either going to be Tamiflu or a Z-Pac and now with the Z-Pac on board I am on the mend.  Yesterday sounded like Minnie Mouse when I spoke but today most of the squeak is gone.  I had planned on staying home to paint and sleep but as you may know my plans never happen like I plan them.  So I sit here at the office because The Hubby said he had a big invoice to type and being me I thought I had better get it typed.  It is NOT a big invoice at all.  He will truly hear from me later that is for sure.  It's all good though as I'm also headed to the chiropractor for my sciatica.  That is getting better too but between not being able to get comfortable in bed because of it and not being able to sleep because my head is killing me and stuffed and, and, and...sleep is been hard to get.  Definitely see a nap in my future today.
