Aye Matie!

Our sweet little Ebony, now long gone.  Wasn't she cute for Halloween!

Sorry this post is so late in the day. It is post #970 and I have not missed a day of blogging in 3 months. It has been a busy day and I'm still not sure what I am ill with at this point. It's either weird allergies that have slammed me or a very strange cold. I'm not letting it slow me down but MAN am I beat tonight. Last night I helped B, or least pretended to help her, setting up at Indie Emporium selling her jewelry, bags and light switch plate wares. Home about 9 pm I knew Clayton needed to be walked and The Hubby went to the cabin for the night, so Clayton and I took a turn around the block before we turned in. 6 am came way too early this morning but I had to get up. My head felt like lead but I pushed on. Today was the color mixing class at my instructor's studio in Adair. I picked up my neighbor and classmate, 75 year old Sheila to ride with me and we were off this morning. It was a beautiful day and the drive was nice to have someone to chat with.  We arrived with about 27 other people and set up ready to learn about mixing colors.

Here I am ready to learn and look see what I got to do.
My wonderful instructor, Ross Myers, or as he likes to be called "Coach".
After a 4 hour class we ventured out to his ranch to take pictures, pet goats and donkeys and partake in a wiener roast.  It was a bit windy but a beautiful day.

Think I might have to paint one of these...

I finally arrived home about 5:30, just in time to feed poor little Clayton.  I felt bad that he was alone all day but that is just the way it is.  I settled down on the couch for a quick 15 minute cat nap and waited for The Hubby to get home as we had a Halloween party to attend.  Oh my goodness I was and am so very pooped out and that darned wind today just beat the tar out of me.  Till later my friends.  What was your weekend like...

Old Friends

I was checking out my Facebook friends, which I do many times a day, when I thought I would look at my high school friends and see what was up with them.  I have found that you have to look at Friend Status on the left side to see a better look without the "LIKE" pages.  I have also created a listing status on my high school friends.  A few weeks ago I stayed in town from the cabin to have dinner with some of my fellow classmates, one of which doesn't live here and the special occasion was to see him.  Joey used to live in my neighborhood and I even went to grade school with him.  It was a great evening visiting with him but when we first greeted each other I noticed his speech was weird.  He said that the doctors don't know what is wrong and they've done tons of testing.  Well, that was all I knew until this week when I checked the friend status.  Joey had posted that doctors have determined he has ALS or Lou Gehrig disease.  My heart is just broken.  Joey is not married anymore and has no children and lives very far away from his family.  I hope he has someone to take care of him or moves here to be with family.  He is such a nice guy and I've known him nearly my entire life.  Please keep Joey in your thoughts as he battles this horrific disease.

Vinyl, Cassette, CD or iPod

Which do you prefer vinyl cassette, CD or iPod?  I have been through all phases of ways to listen to music and I'm beginning to have a preference and it is not what you think.  Of course I'm of the generation of vinyl records and I have a ton of them, 45's and 33-1/3's.  I have since replaced a lot of them with cassette, then CD.  We have a record player but it just doesn't play right now and that is sad.  45's I have a lot because I used to work in a 5&dime, Ben Franklin and I got a discount so my collection grew along with the albums.  Albums are awesome because of the artwork that appeared on them.  I think artwork on CD's is just not that great anymore, (my opinion).  Anyway, back to music.  I have amassed hundreds of CD's over the years ( and I are great friends...One Click) and have put most of them into my computer and then my iPod.  I used to love to shuffle my CD's in my travel case for the car when I drove a good 30 minutes to work but now I drive 7 minutes.  I miss deciding what to listen to from that hands on shuffle.  The iPod thing is pretty cool but really I'm having a hard time trying to find what I want to listen too.  You may cock your head at your computer right now as you read my words knowing how much music I have on my iPod, over 7,000 songs but that is the issue.  Too many.  Too many words to look at, to scroll through.  I like grabbing a CD and that was it for awhile.  I know I could probably use the cover flow view but I just don't like it much.  Part of my problem is that I just can't look at the screen and see what I want without looking for my reading glasses because I just can't see anything but a blur on the screen.  I miss my albums, I love my CD's and I'm going to have to get used to using the iPod more efficiently.  Which do you prefer?

My new fav artist right now are -
Mumford and Sons
Lady Antebellum (yeah I know it's country and that is just not my bag)
Katy Perry
Classical anything (to paint and draw to)

Reality TV

Do you watch reality TV.  I have to admit that I am a horrible addict to reality TV.

I watch:
Amazing Race
Project Runway
Big Brother
American's Next Top Model
Top Chef
Top Chef:  Just Desserts
Next Food Network Star
Hell's Kitchen
The Apprentice (sometimes)

and I'm not including all the ones on VH1 I should not admit watching.  I'm a TV Reality show junkie and I admit it.  I'm sorry.  It's an illness I have to confess to but I don't know how to get over it.  Do you watch reality TV?  What shows are you addicted too?

Here Comes The Bride

Not really yet but in a couple of weeks my niece, my Bro's only child will get hitched.  What a beautiful child she is, inside and out and I am so excited for her.  She will be married in the same church The Hubby and I were married.  In fact, The Hubby and I were the first marriage in the new sanctuary that was not even quite finished and here she is to be married some 35 years later in the same place.  So sweet.  Our youngest, A will be flying home from California to sing in the wedding and that means we will have her here for a week.  SO EXCITED!  My family will be together.  Yesterday was the bridal shower.  The one thing my sweet Sis-in-Law is a bit touchy about is the remarkable resemblance between my niece and me at that age.  So it is unspoken but I am very proud of my niece, my look alike.

Flash Mob - Tulsa

We arrived at the mall about 4pm and walked around window shopping.  We were waiting to assemble at the end of the mall in front of Macy's.  When we entered I told The Hubby that the American Red Cross Blood Drive in much of the area they were to dance in may put a hitch in the plans.  There was still room though and he was still ready to dance.

Wait for it.....

It was getting close to time and I was getting tired of pacing.  Time was 4:45 pm and dancers were starting to wonder around.  They were told to not loiter as that would draw attention.  That was hard as more and more people were showing up.  Some even had cameras in hand as did I, a movie camera.  One guy even had a tripod with his camera, no that won't draw attention.

4:50 pm...What's that going on.  What's happened by the escalator.  What, blood.  Lady on the ground.  Security guards, ambulance, elderly lady fainted, fell and hit her head on the hard floor.  Now the crowd was getting bigger but not what we needed right now.  More security guards are arriving and they are standing right in the middle of where they are to dance.  Dang it.  Maybe the event will have to be pushed back a few minutes.  We wait...

5:15 pm it was determined that the Flash Mob in Tulsa was aborted.  The security guards were just way too suspicious and it's kind of hard to dance around a guerny.  Maybe it will happen soon.

I was having a hard time trying to come up with an idea today which explains not posting till now.  I thought I would check on the National Blog Posting Month website for a prompt for Friday and found something I think I could attempt.  The question for today is "Do you have any scars? How'd you get them?".  Easy peasy I say.

My first scar is in my right eyebrow.  It's a bad spot which effects how I tweeze my thick eyebrows, right through the middle.  I got this fine reminder when I was 3 years old, the day before my mother had little Sis.  I had climbed upon the stand that held the television set and WHAM, Humpty Dumpty fell down, TV and all.  Probably explains when Sis was born.

The second scar is on my tummy.  Sometimes I even have a hard time finding it but it is there and it has a story.  We three kiddos were in the front yard with Momma and Daddy, this house, in the driveway.  I don't know what we were doing but I was climbing all over our car in the drive and I slid down the trunk onto the very sharp license plate and slit my stomach open.  In those days the doctors still made house calls and I remember the doctor coming to the house to have a look.  I thought, and so did my parents, that I would have to get stitches but he said that it was not that bad.  Looked bad.  He taped it together with band aids or tape or something and that was it.  I think I was a very lucky girl.  Both instances happened in this house.  I don't know how old I was with the license plate accident.  Guess I could ask Daddy.

The third scar is like so many other children that get chicken pox.  I have a scar on my forehead that is from the chicken pox that all three of us got.  I believe my girls have scars on their faces too.  We were all lucky it was not worse, very lucky.

My more significant scars are from a surgery.  I sometimes think I should not talk about it but hey, I'm not embarrassed by it.  At the age of 32 years I decided that I was tired of carrying around the massive boulders that hung off my shoulders.  I had a breast reduction.  I believe they took about 3-1/2 pounds off of me.  It was the absolute best thing in the world and would do it again in a heartbeat.  My scars are there but now are fading a bit.  They go from just under my arm pits to the middle, like a half moon on each side and there are some around the nipples where they detached them.  Those are not even noticeable anymore.  Again, it was the best thing I have ever done and every time I see a woman lugging around those boulders I want to go up to them and tell them, "DO IT!"

Where Oh Where Art Thou

Where are my followers.  I noticed last night that I lost a follower.  Where oh where art thou dear follower.  I'm not even sure I can figure out which one has left my side.  Did I say something that ticked you off?  Did I offend you.  Why oh why have you run from my side.  I worried that the dirty hair thing was not a good thing to write about.  I must have been a bad girl somehow.  Maybe this someone just didn't find me interesting anymore.  I'm sorry if that is so.  I'm sorry if I have offended, it has not been my intention to make someone unhappy with me.  Oh, fudge, enough of this...on to the ramble...

On Saturday, this Saturday at Woodland Hills Mall there will be a Flash Mob dance.  You have to go and see The Hubby dance West Coast Swing, not I though.  I will only be there to video it and enjoy not participate.  It will start right at 5 pm and will only last about 5-10 minutes so don't be late.  I don't know for sure what part of the mall it will be in so keep your eyes peeled.  Should be a hoot.  This video is the Houston Flash Mom a few months ago.  Enjoy and come out to see!

Pet Peeves

I'm finally getting around to writing about a few of my pet peeves.  I bring this up because one of them kind of smacked me in the nose, the smeller yesterday.  I was at the grocery store after work picking up roasted chicken and salad for dinner before our dance class when a fairly well dressed lady, not much older than I passed me.  I was minding my own business when, WHEW, the smell of unwashed hair permeated my nostrils.  YUCK!  I just can't stand that awful smell of someone who has not washed their hair for a few days.  Do people just not understand how really nasty that smell is.  I know some can't help it because my mother had that kind of smell towards the end but really a well dressed woman.  I'm sorry but that is one of my pet peeves and I just had to write about it.  Smells, that is one of my pet peeves.  Like someone who smokes.  Do they not realize how nasty that smells and you mix the smell of smoke and unwashed hair, EGAD, my nose has been assaulted.  Does that sound petty and judgemental.  It might but my nose will thank you if you wash please.

Another Monday of Rambling

Another day of trying to find something to write about to continue my quest to post everyday and hit the 1,000 post mark.  Egad, this can be a challenging task I can tell you.  Today may just have to be a ramble so hang on for the ride.

My favorite guilty pleasure television show as of late is Supernatural.  Not only am I a fan of that kind of stuff but the eye candy is AWESOME...Dean and Sam...

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles
See just how yummy they are...whew, I need a fan please.

The reruns are on for two hours each morning, Monday through Friday and the new stuff is Friday night.  I'm new to it and am quite happy I have found it.

This past weekend was just a work of natures art.  The weather was perfect and the colors of fall are beginning.  I'm kind of sad though as the colors are not going to be quite as spectacular due to the lack of rain.  Hopefully, this next weekend, with rain in the forecast will help that along.  We slept with the windows open over our bed and the chill in the air made sleeping just marvelous.  It was great!

This week I will hopefully finish the horses painting just in time for the TCC show in November.  In my home studio I've finished the fishing creel and the fainting couch corner for it too.  Moving my art stuff to the office has worked out nicely although I do miss the natural light to paint by but hey, I get to paint.  It is so fulfilling for me to totally immerse myself in the paints and the brush strokes.  Sometimes I'm just not in the mood and other times the clock just flies by and I don't realize it.

Got my flu shot on Friday, October 15.  That is usually when I try to get it.  I've gotten a flu shot ever since mother was alive and so ill.  We really couldn't be around her without it.  Her health was so precarious but I continue as should everyone.  Now I worry about my Daddy but he got his and the pneumonia shot.  I had that a couple of years ago and they are only every 5 years.

Guess, I'll end this ramble stuff and paint or draw bit.  Later all.

October Weekend

What a glorious October weekend.  We of course spent it at the cabin with friends and the most beautiful weather.  Saturday night we had two couples over for steak and goodies.  Since it is close to Halloween, the event I don't really like, I thought I would add a little whimsy to the meal setting.  The napkins I poofed on the plates sort of like meringues or candy puffs.  It was fun.

Saturday morning, after a night with friends around the campfire, I woke up to the crisp air that was pouring through the open window over my head.  The Hubby opened his eyes and suggested we go to Pryor for breakfast and to WalMart to look for a new antenna.  I was hesitant but it sounded like something different.  A wonderful drive, breakfast and a new antenna in our car and it was back to the day.

The Hubby was tinkering on the roof with the antenna and I took the opportunity to snap a picture of his electrician tools.  Those tools have been something I've looked at and be in great admiration of since I met him nearly 36 years ago.  This may be a painting someday.

Little Clayton had worn himself out on his big run in the meadow...

The Hubby and his big catch...

(another painting?)
but he did release...

Quick update on Daddy.  The bone scan shows no infection in the bone or new hip.  Sis took him to his regular doctor and low and behold he has an abscess on the side of his hip, on the outside.  They began the draining process and Sis said he just cried and cried it hurt so bad.  Makes my heart just hurt to know that.   Poor guy.  Anyway, it is good news but some pain for him.  He should be feeling better today.  I'll call later and check on him.  Later all!

An Unexpected Day

Yesterday just didn't pan out like it was supposed to.  I went workout as usual then rushed home to shower and head out for my monthly massage and facial.  That is something I really look forward to but it was not to be yesterday.  I headed out the door at 8:30 for the 9 am appointment all fresh and clean when my cell phone rang.  It was the place where I go to be pampered and the office manager told me that my wonderful massage therapist had been rushed to the hospital.  Oh my goodness.  That meant the massage was off and since the facial was for 10 am I decided to not go to that one too.  I instead opted to visit my Daddy.

Daddy's been going through some stuff with his new hip.  He has gotten an infection on it and has spent two solid days doing bone scan things to see what is really going on.  Really scary because the doctors said that if they can't get it cleared up then the new hip will have to come out for a few months.  That would mean immobility and a stay in a special care hospital.  My Sis, is not up with that.  She is adamant that if he ever needs any kind of "nursing home" care that he would live with her.  Uh, that is NOT going to happen.  Her home is in a bit of chaos right now and he can't deal with it.  Anyway, the visit with him yesterday was nice.  He's good except for the hip.  He has absolutely no health concerns except for arthritis, bad hearing and the hip for a 75 year old guy.

Back to my day yesterday.  After the visit with Pops I headed to the office to spell B while she had to go teach.  The good thing was that I painted for a couple of hours till the end of the day.  I had to stay for the nephew to come and work on my work computer.  A few days ago I posted about the check disk message and he said that meant the hard drive was getting ready to go.  Yesterday he came by at 4:30 to install a new hard drive, I left at 6 while he was still trying to find the driver with no success.  I came home to wait for The Hubby as we were going to go out to eat, the only time this week.  I waited and waited and waited.  Finally, at 8:30 I knew the out to eat plan was out so I scrounged around and made tuna salad.  I called The Hubby to see how much longer and he said that the nephew was going to have to TAKE my computer but would bring it back today.  Thank goodness payroll was last week!  Scary that my accounting walked out the door!

While whipping up the tuna salad a mosquito must have gotten inside and was buzzing my face.  I slapped it a bit too hard and my hand, fingers came down on the edge of the cabinet.  I hit the right hand ring finger knuckle so hard that I just knew it was broken.  OHHHHH!!!!!  Oh my goodness, it was so sore but I could move it, thank goodness.  This morning it is swollen, stiff, and a tad blue but I can move it, just not grasp anything.  I thought about having it x-rayed but I think it is just severely bruised.  I was also supposed to work out this morning, cardio day but with all the stuff yesterday I also contended with a tummy ache all day long.  It was really weird and it is still a bit on the edge so I'm opting to take it easy.  Yesterday was not at all what I planned.

How Do You Drop Off

The question today at NaBloPoMo is "What do you do to make yourself fall asleep at night?"  This is a very good topic.  When I was young I had a heck of a time falling asleep but once there it was hard to wake up.  I remember laying in bed with my mind whirring and this is still true today.  I would lay there and listen to the sounds of quiet in the house, tossing and turning, not being able to make my mind shut off.  Sometimes if it is really bad I might get up and watch TV for a bit or if I'm worrying about something that prevents me to nod off I will write in my journal.  I find that if I write it out then it is released and I can let it go for a bit.  Doesn't always work, but I try.  I sometimes watch television, boring shows that let my mind wander and not worry about what is really on my mind.  That kind of drivel works fairly well.  If it is really bad I might write stories in my head and then they can end up in my dreams.  Kind of freaky but it works.  I have to make sure they're not ghosts or monster stuff.  Most of the time now I am so very tired that by the time my head hits the pillow I'm out pretty quick.  Waking up at 5 am and working out for an hour every morning and doing what I do during the day I'm pooped!  I find that exercise and limited time on the laptop and less television helps me to dreamland quickly.  What do you do to make yourself fall asleep at night?

Since August I have been posting a blog everyday.  It has been a challenge but I'm on a mission.  This post will be number 949 which means if I continue I should hit 1,000 posts before the end of the year.  I have been blogging since 2006 just after my dear friend Gail died and just before my sweet Momma passed.  This blog has been my release from the depression and stress that came from those two events.  I've written about my depression, saddness, middle age crazy, menopause, work, family, just anything that is important in MY life.  My blog also gives me a chance to write.  I have always written in my hand written journals and will always write in them.  I love to write.  I used to think that fiction would be my venue but I have found that I'm not good at that and I don't really enjoy it as much as I do this kind of writing.  I like to write what is in my mind and what I feel at any given moment.  I don't necessarily share everything here as that could get me in trouble with my family and friends.  I wish I had the guts to just dump here regardless of what people think but I like being married.  I love my kids and family and friends and don't want to alienate them so my hand journals will be the place for that stuff.  Maybe someday I will be brave enough to share some stuff from my history here, someday.

Spice Whore

First, yesterday for The Hubby went wonderfully well.  He is happy!  No more frowning...

Now, on to what I did yesterday.  I think maybe the pictures will say all but I will explain.  I decided to clean out the pantry.  I am a spice whore, syrup whore, brown sugar whore, etc, you get the picture.  No, well let me show you.

Sorry about the non-flash use.  I was having a hard time in the small space trying to capture the chaos.

There was so much crap in there that I had run out of room for the canned goods I bought, hence the need to clean.

I had multiples of everything.  The lemon extract is for my famous White Fruitcake which takes 2 ounces per batch and sometime it is hard to find.  Keeps forever though, at least a few years, unlike the multitude of baking powder cans that had dates like 1998.  And here I complained about Daddy's pantry.  Geez!

Much, much better.  I had 13 bags of brown sugar, 3 of which had not been open.

Saturday on the Edge

Saturday morning and it is very quiet in the house.  Not a creature is stirring not even Clayton.  The washing machine is chugging, the television is quiet and Jill's mind is racing with thoughts of nothingness.  We're in town this weekend for work.  I'm not working but our guys and The Hubby are.  They're at one of our jobs, and it's a big one, getting ready to "throw the big switch".  Kind of like starting up Frankenstein so to speak.  It is phase one of a huge manufacturing company who has been in the middle of a gigantic expansion and we, our company, is doing the electrical upgrade.  It is HUGE, and The Hubby is extremely nervous today.  It's a big deal to know that it will go "offline" for a bit when they switch to the new electric, then hopefully online again.  These kind of jobs are so on the the edge because if one tiny thing goes wrong, well then the work can't go on and that is bad for all involved.  So keep your fingers and toes crossed as The Hubby and the crew manage to get'er done this morning!

If you haven't taken a look at my art blog lately then please do.  I've been working on a horse picture and it is coming along so very well.  I will share it here but don't forget to check the blog out....listed in the right side.  It is NOT finished yet as we have some grass and the fence to even out and add lines but I so love this one so far.

Oklahoma Blogging Week: Tulsa Meetup

I was waiting...waiting for...the Tulsa Meetup for Oklahoma Blogging Week!

It was quite fun and put together by Tasha Ball of Tasha Does Tulsa and Oklahoma Prosperity Project.  A OPP representative spoke and they were responsible for the food of the evening at The Melting Pot.
As I said, Miss Tasha was our host and main speaker...
with fondue food from The Melting Pot and our other host OPP...

fun bloggie friends...

I spent a bit more time sitting, eating, listening and enjoying the beautiful evening air.  It did get a tad warm sitting close to the fondue parts but all in all it was a wonderful night.

Yesterday when I went to the office I was again greeted with the message on my computer from McAfee to reboot.  Since I had some paperwork to do I finally told it to do that.  I immediately got the CHKDSK message.  I knew this was not good, especially when I saw the delete, obsolete, fix, and error words...EGADS!  That computer has all my accounting and payroll is Friday.  I freaked and called our nephew who is a computer tech.  He validated that it was not good and said the hard drive is probably going out.  Man this computer is only 2 years old and a great computer.  He said to let it finish and then see what happens.  It finished quickly while I was on the phone with him and low and behold I was able to get into my files!  Thank goodness since I had not backed up the accounting for the week yet.  I immediately backed up and started making backup disks of the important stuff on the computer just in case.  I'm a bit scared to go in today and actually didn't even close Quickbooks.  Guess it is time to upgrade it...

Splendor in the Grass

The other day I caught the old movie Splendor in the Grass with Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty and have not been able to let it go.  I absolutely love the last part where Natalie, in the character of Deanie, recites lines of the William Wordsworth poem:

That though the radiance which was once so bright be now forever taken from my sight. Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass, glory in the flower. We will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind.

You know I would like this said at my leaving this world, morbid as that sounds I just love these words and they don't seem to want to leave me this week.  It is also only a part of a very long poem with stanzas.  I find these words so beautiful and strong, don't you agree.

Damn Dancing!

I am done with workout this morning.  I had a great one as I did yesterday.  Yesterday I rode 6 miles on the stationary bike and walked a mile and a half on the treadmill.  Today was muscle work with a bit of cardio on the bike, 3 miles.  I think I've got the exercise part under control in my life, now The Hubby, I'm not so sure.  I started to write a whole paragraph griping about The Hubby and his love of the dance and our difference of opinion but decided I would not.  Let's just say I do not love it but I love him and I'm giving him one night a week.  All the stuff in the middle of the conversation is the same old thing and I'm not going to rehash.  I will say though that I AM NOT going to learn ballroom!
Last night as we were driving home listening to the radio a song came on that took me right back to our dating days.  Oh my!  My girls, I'm not sure you want to read this.  I don't even remember the song but the memories were flooding back after nearly 35 years of marriage.  When we were dating there was a radio station on in Tulsa called K-Kool (I think) and it played a genre of music that we just didn't listen to in Broken Arrow.  It was like Soul Train on the radio and at night they played the most beautiful romantic love songs.  That song last night just took me right back to looking at the gorgeous tall lanky blond guy that I fell in love with.  The music of K-Kool put the passion in our love and I was just transported to that time last night.
Sometimes you just forget those moments that led you to where you are today in your relationship.  I may get cranky at him and frustrated but I so still love The Hubby.  He is a beautiful man to me and always will be.  He makes me laugh and smile and I never get tired of hearing his stories even though I've heard them a thousand times over.  That song last night took me to passion, kissing, and touching.  Sounds of love and desire...oh my, think I'm about ready to write a romance novel here.  It's good to remember those moments with you significant other.  It reignites the love.  You can get angry and frustrated at them but they are your life partner, your best friend.

A Sweeping We Will Go

Yes, that would be Mr. Jimbo on his roof next door at the retreat.  He is sweeping the walnuts, leaves and twigs off of his cabin roof.

This would be the rapidly moving backside of The Hubby on our roof.  Every time I tried to snap a pic he was moving, much like little Clayton sometimes, just a blur.  He was on our roof sweeping and trying to get our digital antenna to work again.  Ever since the girls weekend it has been on the fritz.  We get channel 2 then 8 then only 6 then 8 is 2...EGADS!!!  I only want to watch the news.
Then while up there The Hubby discovered that we had a squirrel's nest atop the chimney.  That had to go quickly because fall is in the air and a fire is soon to follow.
